The under-tile floor heating cable mat is a fantastic heating system used under tiled floors. The cable mat is fitted over a layer of floor insulation and covered with a layer of floor screed prior to installing your floor tiles.
Cable mats are very popular. Firstly, they are very responsive when fitted below tiles, you can expect fast heat up times because tiles hold heat longer than any other type of flooring. Secondly, cable mats are relatively easy to install in either concrete and timber subfloors.
In addition to this, under tile heating is completely silent. It’s great for allergies as it does not circulate air or dust, it’s also completely maintenance free. Lastly this heating system is suitable for you to use with so many different types of floor tiles like ceramic, porcelain and natural stones.
This heating system is relatively easy to install in your home because it fits over your existing subfloor. First, insulation boards are fitted to your subfloor and the heating cable fits over the top and directly below your tiled floor.
Before we fit the heating system below your tiles, we first install a layer of insulation with either tile adhesive or by mechanical fixing. This minimises heat loss and ensures fast heat-up times. We then overlay the full heating system with a layer of fibre reinforced floor screed.
Insulated tile backer boards can also replace the need to fix plywood over your subfloor prior to laying floor tiles. This is only possible when you mechanically fix 10mm (minimum thickness) insulated tile backer boards with screws and washers.
